Julia Greeley: Secret Angel to the Poor
$15.99Julia Greeley, a former slave, was an angel of mercy to the poor of Denver, Colorado—a bustling, growing Western town. She was very poor herself, but whatever she received, often by begging, she shared with those who needed it more than she did. Filled with the joy of loving Jesus, she lifted the spirits of everyone she met. Julia was born into slavery sometime between 1833 and 1848. As she was not allowed to learn to read and write, Julia was mostly illiterate; but nothing held her back from living the love of God. Freed from slavery as an adult, Julia moved to Denver and there she mostly worked for cooking, cleaning, and caring for children. She pulled her little red wagon through dark alleys at night so that people wouldn’t be embarrassed by receiving charity from her. Upon her death, huge crowds of people, rich and poor, lined up at Sacred Heart Church for hours to honor her. Only then did people begin to realize how many lives she had touched with her humble charity. Her cause for sainthood was opened in Rome in 2016.

I’m peeling turnips.” “But why are you peeling turnips?” It’s cold and rainy outside, and inside the monastery kitchen. Brother Rafael is having a bad day. Pestered by gloomy thoughts, he is becoming discouraged. What does he do to let in the light and the warmth he needs? He turns to Jesus. This uplifting and lavishly illustrated story will inspire children to call on God for strength in the daily struggle against temptation.

Love Unveiled: The Catholic Faith Explained
$18.95“Man cannot live without love…. His life is senseless if love is not revealed to him, if he does not encounter love, if he does not experience it and make it his own, if he does not participate intimately in it.” — John Paul II, Redemptor Hominis

Classic Literature Made Simple: Fifty Great Books in a Nutshell
$17.95It has been said, quite correctly, that we write as well as we read. It can also be said that we think as well as we read. Since reading well is so important, it is good to get into the habit of reading good books. The better the book, the better will be our ability to think well and write well.
In Classic Literature Made Simple, literary expert Joseph Pearce takes the reader on a guided tour of fifty great works of literature. The author of over thirty books, Pearce uses his experience of teaching literature at college level for over twenty years to show the reader the moral dimension of each work. He shows how each work presents a mystical mirror to the reader, offering insights into the meaning of life itself.
“Christian civilization has given birth to numerous great books as it has given birth to numerous great saints, “Joseph Pearce writes. “The former should be canonized as are the latter. Great books, like great saints, enrich our faith as they enrich our culture. As such, reading good books should be an integrated part of leading a good life.”
Those who read this book will learn how to read the great books well, which will help them to live the good life well.Add to cartOnly 1 left in stock (additional units can be purchased)

The Spirit of the Liturgy
$19.99In honor of its fortieth anniversary (1978–2018), Ignatius Press presents a special Commemorative Edition of one of the most important works written by Joseph Ratzinger, The Spirit of the Liturgy.
This edition includes the earlier classic work with the same title by Servant of God Romano Guardini, a book that helped Ratzinger to “rediscover the liturgy in all its beauty, hidden wealth and time-transcending grandeur, to see it as the animating center of the Church, the very center of Christian life”.
Considered by Ratzinger devotees as one of his greatest works, this profound and beautifully written treatment of the liturgy will help readers to deepen their understanding of the “great prayer of the Church”. The cardinal discusses fundamental misunderstandings of the Second Vatican Council’s intentions for liturgical renewal, especially about the priest’s orientation of prayer to the Father, the placement of the tabernacle in churches, and the posture of kneeling.
Other important topics are the essence of worship, the Jewish roots of Christian prayer, the relationship of the liturgy to time and space, sacred art and music, and the active participation of the faithful in the Mass.

Salt and Light: The Spiritual Journey of Elisabeth and Felix Leseur
$17.95Élisabeth and Félix Leseur began their life together in France as a carefree young couple with a bright future ahead of them. They were beautifully and compatibly matched, except for one major difference—Élisabeth was a devout Catholic, and Félix was a firmly decided atheist. As they faced the seasons of life together, their relationship was tested, and both were called to deep spiritual transformation.
Out of love for her husband, Élisabeth spent her life offering her many sufferings for the sake of his conversion. After her death, and in response to the profound love he encountered in her writings, Félix converted and offered the rest of his life to God as a Dominican priest.
This biography is a lovely narrative of their marriage and the transformative power of God’s love and grace in their lives. It also presents a charming picture of upper-middle-class French society at the turn of the last century. The cause for the canonization of Élisabeth Leseur has been opened by the Catholic Church.
