Julia Greeley: Secret Angel to the Poor
$15.99Julia Greeley, a former slave, was an angel of mercy to the poor of Denver, Colorado—a bustling, growing Western town. She was very poor herself, but whatever she received, often by begging, she shared with those who needed it more than she did. Filled with the joy of loving Jesus, she lifted the spirits of everyone she met. Julia was born into slavery sometime between 1833 and 1848. As she was not allowed to learn to read and write, Julia was mostly illiterate; but nothing held her back from living the love of God. Freed from slavery as an adult, Julia moved to Denver and there she mostly worked for cooking, cleaning, and caring for children. She pulled her little red wagon through dark alleys at night so that people wouldn’t be embarrassed by receiving charity from her. Upon her death, huge crowds of people, rich and poor, lined up at Sacred Heart Church for hours to honor her. Only then did people begin to realize how many lives she had touched with her humble charity. Her cause for sainthood was opened in Rome in 2016.

Catherine of Siena
$21.95Engage in Historical Biography at its Most Compelling Set in 14th century Medieval Europe, Catherine of Siena documents a path of humble servitude and devotion leading to some of the most pivotal decisions in the Christian world of that era. Nobel Prize-winning author Sigrid Undset’s heartfelt biography portrays one of the most dynamic women ever to live. At a time when it was rare for women to gain power in society, Catherine’s dedication and focus drove her to play a prominent role in the Catholic Church. Recognizing her calling from an early age, she joined an informal group centered on Dominican spirituality and quickly gained notoriety as a mystic. She is well-known for influencing Pope Gregory XI to move from Avignon to Rome. She later strongly supported Pope Urban VI and remained a guiding voice in the church until her death in 1380. Catherine’s exemplary faithfulness, prayer, and service to the poor gained her recognition at the highest levels of the Church, and she was called upon as a peacemaker. Recently declared the patron saint of Europe, her holiness and knowledge continue to inspire all who read her story. Having extensively researched Medieval Europe for her seminal works of historical fiction, Sigrid Undset was uniquely qualified to study primary sources and breathe life into the biography of St Catherine. Her sensitivity to the devotional heart and unparalleled understanding of time and place is transporting as she paints an insightful portrait of this truly inspirational Christian woman. An uncommonly inspirational work, Catherine of Siena is well suited as a compelling read or a unique gift.

Love Unveiled: The Catholic Faith Explained

Utopia
$12.00Thomas More’s Utopia is a masterpiece of Renaissance political philosophy, responsible for introducing the term ‘utopia’ and spawning an entire genre of ‘utopian’ and ‘dystopian’ literature. This Penguin Classics edition is a major new translation from the Latin by Dominic Baker-Smith, and includes an introduction and notes on the text.
‘Even if you can’t eradicate harmful ideas or remedy established evils, that’s no reason to turn your back on the body politic’
In Utopia, Thomas More gives us a traveller’s account of a newly-discovered island where the inhabitants enjoy a social order based on natural reason and justice, and human fulfilment is open to all. As the traveller, Raphael, describes the island to More, a bitter contrast is drawn between this rational society and the custom-driven practices of Europe. So how can the philosopher try to reform his society? In his fictional discussion, More takes up a question first raised by Plato and which is still a challenge in the contemporary world. In the history of political thought few works have been more influential than Utopia, and few more misunderstood.
Dominic Baker-Smith’s introduction examines the conflicting voices and perspectives of More’s masterpiece and relates them to the European context of his time. This new edition also includes a chronology, notes, appendices, glossary and suggested further reading.
Thomas More (1478-1535) succeeded Cardinal Wolsey as Lord Chancellor of England, but came into conflict with the king, Henry VIII, by refusing to acknowledge him as sole head of the church. Charged with high treason, More steadfastly refused to take an oath impugning the pope’s authority or upholding the king’s divorce from Catherine of Aragon. More was tried as a traitor at Westminster Hall, and beheaded on Tower Hill. He was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1935.Add to cartOnly 1 left in stock (additional units can be purchased)

Classic Literature Made Simple: Fifty Great Books in a Nutshell
$17.95It has been said, quite correctly, that we write as well as we read. It can also be said that we think as well as we read. Since reading well is so important, it is good to get into the habit of reading good books. The better the book, the better will be our ability to think well and write well.
In Classic Literature Made Simple, literary expert Joseph Pearce takes the reader on a guided tour of fifty great works of literature. The author of over thirty books, Pearce uses his experience of teaching literature at college level for over twenty years to show the reader the moral dimension of each work. He shows how each work presents a mystical mirror to the reader, offering insights into the meaning of life itself.
“Christian civilization has given birth to numerous great books as it has given birth to numerous great saints, “Joseph Pearce writes. “The former should be canonized as are the latter. Great books, like great saints, enrich our faith as they enrich our culture. As such, reading good books should be an integrated part of leading a good life.”

Salt and Light: The Spiritual Journey of Elisabeth and Felix Leseur
$17.95Élisabeth and Félix Leseur began their life together in France as a carefree young couple with a bright future ahead of them. They were beautifully and compatibly matched, except for one major difference—Élisabeth was a devout Catholic, and Félix was a firmly decided atheist. As they faced the seasons of life together, their relationship was tested, and both were called to deep spiritual transformation.
Out of love for her husband, Élisabeth spent her life offering her many sufferings for the sake of his conversion. After her death, and in response to the profound love he encountered in her writings, Félix converted and offered the rest of his life to God as a Dominican priest.
This biography is a lovely narrative of their marriage and the transformative power of God’s love and grace in their lives. It also presents a charming picture of upper-middle-class French society at the turn of the last century. The cause for the canonization of Élisabeth Leseur has been opened by the Catholic Church.

Meeting the Protestant Response: How to Answer Common Comebacks to Catholic Arguments
$22.95Thanks to apologetics, millions of regular Catholics have learned to give good reasons for the things they believe, usually to Protestants who challenge their faith with a Bible verse or historical claim. But those critics of the Church have been paying attention, and now they have their own answers to rebut the standard Catholic proofs. In Meeting the Protestant Response, Karlo Broussard follows up his bestselling Meeting the Protestant Challenge by looking at the fresh counter-arguments that Evangelical pastors and scholars have developed and taught their followers to make. On subjects like the Eucharist, the papacy, salvation, and the veneration of saints, Karlo breaks down these new comebacks, shows how they don’t actually disprove the classic Catholic argument, and offers more biblical, logical ways to explain and defend the doctrines and practices of our faith.

Gods Influencer : Holy Advice From St. Carol Acutis
$17.95He played video games, excelled athletically and academically, manifested contagious joy and wit – even in suffering – and befriended all those he met. St. Carlo Acutis (1991-2006), already hailed “the greatest saint of the century,” was a Thomas Aquinas in blue jeans.
It’s almost unheard of that parents take part in the beatification of their own child. So, too, is it uncommon for parents to miraculously be brought back to the Faith and dedicated Christian living by their child. All this happened in the lives of Antonia and Andrea, the young parents of Carlo, who was beatified on October 10, 2020, by Pope Francis and will be canonized on April 27, 2025.
In this astounding interview, you will marvel as Antonia and Andrea retrace the path they walked with Carlo and share fascinating moments in his life in which his faith matured, including the plan of life that he developed for himself on the day after his First Holy Communion. Reading these intimate stories, you will be struck by how very ordinary their life together was, how common and within reach, and how extraordinary it became once this amazing young man threw his arms open wide to God in his life.
As you read remarkably penetrating passages from St. Carlo’s writings and counsels on the Gospels, the Eucharist, and the mysteries of our Faith, and maxims he shared, this millennial mystic will teach you how to:
*Embrace seven “special secrets” on becoming a saint
*Fall in love with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and transmit the Faith spontaneously to others
*Make fruitful Confessions and kindle your spiritual progress in daily practical ways
*Evangelize the culture by “Rendering Eucharist” using modern media and personal witness
*Adore the Eucharist for the transformation of the world and live in “constant intimacy with Jesus”
*Model forgotten virtues, such as friendship, magnanimity, purity, and fortitude
Few may realize that St. Carlo was a brilliant catechist who also created numerous displays about the Faith, most notably the Eucharistic Miracles exhibition of worldwide fame. Through the lens of his spiritual wisdom, you will discover how all of creation points to the Holy Eucharist and why the Real Presence is the source of all family life, evangelization, and holiness. Additionally, you will read testimonies about St. Carlo’s generosity to the poor, the sick, the suffering, the homeless, and the disabled. This saint for our times was concerned and offered prayers for

What Christians Believe
$9.95Today, more than a quarter of Americans claim no religious affiliation at all. Religious belief in general, and Christianity in particular, is increasingly regarded as mythical and unreasonable–the superstitious product of prescientific minds.
But what do thoughtful Christians actually believe?
In this short book, renowned preacher, teacher, and theologian Bishop Robert Barron invites skeptics, seekers, and lifelong Christians alike to consider this question through one of Christianity’s most pivotal texts: the Nicene Creed, an ancient statement of faith that has guided Christian thought for 1700 years and is still accepted by Christians around the world today. With philosophical and theological acumen, Bishop Barron walks through the Creed line by line, explaining its teachings on the mystery of the Trinity, the saving mission of Jesus Christ, and both the life of the Church below and the life of the world to come.
Drawing on Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, and the richness of the Catholic intellectual tradition, What Christians Believe unfolds the essentials of the Christian faith with conviction and clarity.

Canceled : Twelve Catholic Heroes That History Turned Into Villains
$23.95In Canceled, historian Steve Weidenkopf (The Real Story of Catholic History) digs into some of the most controversial Catholics ever to capture the popular imagination. He looks at notorious figures like Christopher Columbus and Marie Antoinette, so associated with their presumed evils that the modern world has completely written them off-canceled them from any favorable mention or memory. And worse, the world now uses them as brushes to tar the whole Church. Weidenkopf discovers, though, that these figures are actually victims of a concerted project of defamation, their lives twisted and misrepresented by the Church’s enemies: Enlightenment philosophers, Protestant rebels, modern secularists, and even malcontents within Catholicism. What is official history getting wrong about Torquemada or Pius IX? Could there really be another side to the story of “Bloody” Mary Tudor? Or Guy Fawkes? Weidenkopf cuts through centuries of shady lies and viral myths (maybe you even believed them!) to get to the amazing truths about these and other maligned men and women of God. Canceled is not a whitewash, but rather a much-needed work of correction. Skillfully challenging the anti-Catholic historical record, it comes to the defense of faithful (though hardly flawless) Catholics whose reputations have been unfairly blackened-and to the defense of the Faith with which they are forever linked.

Prayer As A Weapon
$24.95In the eternal battle for souls, prayer is our greatest weapon.
In this book on spiritual warfare, acclaimed author and radio host Jesse Romero emphasizes the importance of prayer in facing our modern crises, especially for men who are the heads of their households.
He reminds us that the faculty of prayer is both a gift and a protective weapon from God. Far from a passive routine, it is an intrepid action in which we directly encounter the divine and drive away the diabolic.
Romero identifies the different types of prayer – liturgical, adoration, petition, intercession, thanksgiving, and praise – and demonstrates from Scripture and Tradition that prayer is also a weapon. This idea is unfamiliar to most Catholics, especially Catholic men.
Focusing on the necessity and relevance of prayer in the lives of modern Catholics, Romero highlights:
Why prayer requires humility
*The power of the St. Michael Prayer in protecting one from demonic forces
*Why specificity is important in prayer intentions
*Ways to make your prayers more efficacious
*The role of sacramentals in spiritual protection
*How only a return to prayer can win the culture warsDrawing from Scripture, the Catechism, the lives of the saints, and his own experiences in spiritual warfare and the pro-life movement, Romero provides riveting examples of the power of prayer to advance the Kingdom of Heaven even on this earth. He reminds Catholics of the duties bestowed upon us at our Confirmations: to become joyful soldiers for Christ and to pray without ceasing (1 Thess. 5:17).
The book also features moving testimonies of the power of the Rosary from medieval times to the present and includes reminders that, in the stirring words of St. John Chrysostom:
“The power of prayer has subdued the strength of fire, bridled the rage of lions, silenced anarchy, extinguished wars, appeased the elements, expelled demons, burst the chains of death, enlarged the gates of Heaven, relieved diseases, averted frauds, rescued cities from destruction, stayed the sun in its course, and arrested the progress of the thunderbolt. In sum, prayer has power to destroy whatever is at enmity with the good.”

Near Death Experiences
$18.95Near-death experiences (NDEs) are endlessly fascinating for those who long for Heaven or are just curious about the things we cannot see (yet). Lost in all the discussion of NDEs, however, is their long, rich history. Saints and mystics have been visiting Heaven for thousands of years, and here, for the first time, Scott L. Smith provides you with a glimpse of what they’ve been seeing these past two millennia.
In these heart-pounding pages, you will first learn about the ancient origin of NDEs and seven characteristics that describe them. Then, through studies of present-day cardiac and comatose patients, you will see what modern medical research says about NDEs. (You will be surprised!)
You will see remarkable similarities between the NDE stories of biblical figures, such as Jonah, St. Paul, and St. John the Evangelist, and those of more modern individuals, such as Therese of Lisieux, Faustina Kowalska, and Padre Pio. Smith shares an array of God’s merciful messages from the great beyond through people’s visits to Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, documenting current-day stories, including:
*The NDEs of Fr. Cedric Pesigna, including one while watching a Boston Red Sox game
*Author Kevin Wells’s story of Heaven’s victory over his certain death and spiritual oppression
*Sondra Abrahams’s NDE, which drove home the importance of reforming our lives and praying for the dead – even if we think they are without hope or definitely in Heaven
*The NDE of Fr. Stephen Scheier, who glimpsed Hell because of the casual way he treated the sacrament of Confession – and his transformative encounter with Our Lady
You will learn of how St. Teresa of Avila returned to life after being dead for four days and the details of her stunning visits to Heaven and Hell. You will also be treated to the NDE account of Pope St. Gregory the Great and the incredible NDE of one of St. Padre Pio’s priestly spiritual sons, while in battle, and how Padre Pio accompanied him.
Smith reveals why some souls remain in Purgatory for decades – and how others choose Hell. But throughout, you will be consoled by stories of God’s limitless mercy, which never ceases calling us to repentance and inviting us to share in the glories of His heavenly kingdom.
